What is Lather?

When a bar of soap is combined with water and agitated the result is a lather, which is the formation of multiple tiny bubbles.

What do the bubbles do? How do they clean your skin?

When you mix soap with water, it lowers the surface tension of the water by separating the water molecules, as the soap molecules push up between them. Meanwhile, the other ends of the soap molecules that are attracted to dirt grab on to it. As multiple soap molecules attach themselves to the same piece of dirt, they eventually break it down into tiny particles, which then can easily be washed away. (Howstuffworks.com)

Why did we start making soap?

When I say “we” here it is actually referring to just my mom, who is the creator of this entire company.  She started making soap for a few reasons:

One reason was how dry her skin was every time she got out of the shower. Her skin was constantly dry and flaky, constantly in need of moisturization. Creating soap is also a great way for my mom to be creative: choosing a scent, colors, design of the soap and other additives.

Another reason she started making soap was for her sister, my aunt, who suffers from Eczema. My aunt has always been pretty selective of the products she uses on her skin because of the sensitivity of her skin, but that still would not guarantee her skin would not be affected by the chemicals in the soaps, lotions and makeups. Once she started using our products she immediately started noticing a difference in her skin; less dryness and Eczema breakouts. She also uses our lotion as a makeup remover! She now only uses MacSuds Soap products for caring for her skin.

Additionally, we have other family members and friends that suffer from Eczema and have noticed a difference in their skin once using our products.  Even some of our customers have been so happy with our products for their Eczema, such as our calendula or pine tar soaps, they have ordered an entire loaf of soap! (This is a great way to save money and stock up on soap! You know you will always need soap!)

There seems to be almost an epidemic of people suffering from skin irritations such as Eczema and Psoriasis in this day and age. Not sure if it is necessarily more prevalent now or if we as a society are more knowledgeable of the conditions in this day and age, but I personally wonder if it is all the chemicals in our diets and body products that is causing these skin problems in such a large quantity.
