How long will a bar of our handcrafted soap last?

The length of time your bar of handcrafted soap will last depends on a few factors: curing time, drainage between use, and amount of usage. After a batch of our handcrafted soap is poured it will harden for at least 24 hours then removed and left alone for another 24 hours. The soap loaf is then cut into bars and left to cure (dry) for 4 weeks. The longer the soap is left to cure the harder the bar will be as well as adding to the length of time the soap might last. To help the soap bar last even longer it is best to use something that allows proper/complete drainage of the bar in between usage. A soap net, a mesh sack you place the soap bar in and can hang to let dry between use. A soap deck is also a great way to allow the soap bar to dry between use by allowing air to circulate around the bar of soap.
With that said, if the soap has cured for about 4 weeks or longer and provided drainage to dry between use, a bar of our soap will last 2 to 3 months, depending on use.

What is glycerin and why is it important?

Glycerin is a natural skin humectant, which means that it attracts and retains moisture on your skin; it is like a natural skin lotion in the soap.  Glycerin is retained in handcrafted soap, opposed to commercial soap, in which the glycerin is extracted and sold to industries where it is used in pharmaceuticals, foods, cosmetics, and other products.  By retaining the glycerin in handcrafted soap the consumer gets a mild, pure soap that gently cleanses the skin without irritating or drying.

What is the Saponification Process?

The Saponification process happens with a specific amount of oils and butters are mixed properly with sodium hydroxide (lye). Once this process happens, the lye is neutralized and glycerin is created.  There is no harm from the lye once it has been through the saponification process.
